Our story

The story behind our Corfu adventure and why it was love at first sight.

MEET US

Living the Corfu Life

We would like to introduce ouselves, our names are Didi and Marius and we are from the Netherlands. Didi has over 10 years experience working in the financial sector and Marius has been working in construction for most of his life. Nice to know is that La Strade is a combination of our surnames, Strating & de Laat.

Corfu has been our favourite summer desitination since going there for the first holiday together in 2014.  We have fallen in love with this gorgeous green island and have been back there every year since.

For a few years we had been wondering what it would be like to have our own little home on Corfu.  We had been dreaming of waking up in the morning, opening the windows, letting the sunlight hit our faces while looking out over the Ionian Sea and contemplating the idea of starting our day with a swim.

In 2021 we started making our dream our reality and also decided that we didn’t want to just keep this beautiful place to ourselves, but instead open it up for others to enjoy as well.  We are very excited to starting this new chapter in our lives and are ready for adventures to begin!

We can tell you all about the little bays with the crystal clear water, the breathtaking sunsets, tasty food and friendly locals.  Corfu has so much more and we are sure that once you have experienced and seen all the amazing things the island has to offer first hand, it will capture your heart.

a rich heritage in The heart of the Ionian Sea

Corfu and its beautiful capital Kerkyra.

The lonian islands are located in the northwest of Greece, hidden in the lonian sea.  Corfu has approximately 113.000 inhabitants, about a third of whom live in the capital Kerkyra also known as Corfu Town.

Kerkyra is an old town with typical Venetian buildings. In the small streets you can stroll and shop and above your head you will see the washing lines between the old wooden shutters of the old houses. A city to fall in love with, with terraces, squares and the old and the new fortress. These last two have protected Kerkyra from various enemies throughout history. You can visit them both and enjoy the view over Corfu Town.

Napoleon also liked to be in Kerkyra and made a recognizable piece of France in the city: Liston, with its beautiful arches at the front is now the meeting place of Kerkyra. All day long  tourists and locals enjoy their drinks and food on the terraces as they watch people stroll around Liston, the Esplanade and the shopping streets behind it. Sometimes a game of cricket is being played on the lawn in front of the terraces or a concert is organized in summertime.
